Information about Out of Body Experience and Lucid Dreams

The Out of Body Experience and lucid dreams are topics that have been the subject of speculation from the very origins of humans until today. We find numerous accounts of people experiencing out-of-body states throughout history.

There are numerous benefits to achieving an Out of Body Experience (commonly called an OBE). William Buhlman enumerates some of the most noteworthy benefits in his book, "Adventures Beyond the Body."

It’s said that all people go out-of-body when they sleep; it’s just that they are not conscious of it. A certain percentage of people are naturally able to engage in conscious out-of-body experiences (OBEs). For these lucky people, this section will probably add nothing new, but it may perhaps provide another view of some of their experiences.

I’ve had my own OBEs. I’ve got to admit that I’m not very proficient at them and often don’t have the degree of control that I’d like. My Out of Body Experience ranges from fearful to absolutely joyful.

It was after 2AM when I sat up in bed. I’d been through two waves of deep sleep and had awoken from the second wave. It was quite dark in our bedroom and I could see the outline of the open closet door against the wall. It seemed vaguely threatening in its possibilities, even though we’d lived in the house for a number of years. As I looked around, I suddenly realized that my physical body was still lying in bed on its back. I was sitting up with my etheric legs still encased within my physical legs. I recognized that this was an OBE and thought about moving to the wall and going through, something I’d never done before. The darkness of the room and the bad feeling associated with the closet prohibited me. I felt fearful and decided to simply lay back down and go back to sleep. I reentered my body and rolled onto my side and fell asleep.

This out of body experience was somewhat fearful and did not result in any startling conclusions or learning except for the idea that I could be out-of-body and still in-body at the same time. Another experience can serve as an example of a higher spiritual level.

I was listening to one of the Monroe Gateway disks and had moved to what the Monroe Institute calls level 12. I view this level’s environment as if I were clinging to a ladder which drops out of the bottom of what I call the real-time zone and the Monroe Institute calls level 10. As I look around, I can see that I’m in a huge space. The ladder seems to go up away from me into another dimension. I can move my perception all around the surface of the sphere that surrounds me and see in all directions. Far off in the distance on every side, I can see vague structures like clouds that are occasionally lit up with lightening. I came here with a question in mind about which path I wanted to take. One was to become more engaged in political activities and the other was to continue with my attempts to gain spiritual grace. I somehow pushed that question out into the level 12 space and then discovered that my normal spirit guides (I have two who are always available) had been joined by a third presence. I said, “Oh! There’s someone else here. Who are you?” The answer popped back into my mind, “Azrael.” At the time, I had no idea of the meaning of that name and I can’t remember ever having heard it before. In any event, that entity told me quite firmly that I was to continue along my spiritual path. With that answer, I came back to my physical body and turned off the CD.

The next morning, I went to my computer and searched for “Azrael.” I was quite surprised and somewhat emotionally upset to find that Azrael is the archangel of death. I decided that I’d better obey the directive!
